The 36th International Fur Fair of Kastoria 2011

The 36th International Fur Fair of Kastoria was for another year in the center of international interest. The Kastorian Fur Fair is the third most important in the sector. The International Fur Fair of Kastoria has been attracting the interest of numerous commercial visitors and buyers from all the international markets, offering every year something new and innovative. The traditional technique enriched with new ideas, new materials and new designs, the “heavy” fur gives its place to creations for every day and gains even the most demanding buyers' attention. Elegance is dominating, combined with quality and high aesthetics. The creative mood of designers combines classical and modern techniques with traditional techniques. These modern style collections gain the reward of all, in one glamorous Gala which could only be compared with catwalks of well-known fashion houses. Collections presented fashion options for the modern woman, for men and for children. Fur does not only concern women's coats, but also cardigans, jackets, scarves (étole), dresses and fur accessories tha can be worn in many ways, with various combinations anytime and everywhere. Fur is again in the foreground, gaining day by day more and more consumers, as a timeless and genuine product accessible to everyone.

The enterprises which participated in the Gala that took place the first day of the Fair were:

IMPERIA FURS & LEATHER, DIOS FASHION, PANIDIS EXCLUSIVE, ALESSANDRO BOSSO, FOKOS FURS, OBSESSION FURS, FILIPPOU FURS, UNIQUE BY ILIA TAKANTZIA, SCANDINAVIA FURS, LADY FURS, VASSOU & PAPADAMOU, MATSOKO FURS, KONSTANTINOS MOUSIOS & CO, TSIARTAS FURS, AMERICAN LEGEND, ELEGANT FURS, GRAVAS MICHAEL, BOURTZOS KONSTANTINOS, GREEK SIATISTIAN FUR KOUTSOULIOTAS-SKORDARIS, DI CARA KARATZAS, MANZARI INTERNATIONAL, GEORGIO MILIOS.

The innovative lines, the delicate designing perception, the modern techniques treatments responded at high expectations of traders and buyers.  The President of Kastorian’s Fur Association, Mr. Iraklis Kallisthenis, opened the Gala  thanking the sponsors: NAFA, AMERICAN LEGEND & KOPENHAGEAN FUR. Finally, he thanked the exhibitors who despite the financial crisis participated and enriched this exhibition.

In the Hellenic Fur Federation event held at the Conference Center of the Fur Fair Exhibition on Friday under the topic “Planning and Auctions taken by the IFTF and the Hellenic Fur Federation for the future of our trade”, Mr. George Dinas (Hellenic Fur Federation President) opened with a greeting, followed by the lectures of Mr. Mark Oaten, (C.E.O. of International Fur Trade Federation I.F.T.F), Mr. Mike Moser responsible for the OA program (Origin Assured) and certification of the products, and finally Mr. Knud Vest (President of the European Fur Breeders Association). 

Afterwards, distinctions were awarded to new designers and to enterprises which produce clothes and have participated in Pan-Hellenic Competition of fashion design at years 2009, 2010 and 2011. Specifically, the following prizes were awarded to the following enterprises:
“Papanikolaou George” participated in the Hellenic Design Competition of 2009. 
“ N. Karanikolas & CO” participated in the Hellenic Design Competition of 2010.
“Manzari International” for his offer and participation in the Hellenic Design Competition of 2011. 
Designer: ‘Argiro Barbeli’ for her participation and distinction in the Hellenic Design Competition of 2011. 
School: “Pansik” for participating in the Hellenic Designs Competitions the years 2009, 2010 and 2011. 
At Kopenhagen’s Fur seminar under the topic “New trends and techniques”the presentation was made by Mrs. Lone Olsen. She spoke of new techniques as well as on the theme of this season called “Sea”. After her theoretical lecture she made use of plates in order to show the techniques mentioned. Finally, Mrs. Olsen spoke of new tendencies at international catwalks witch concern the combination of fur and fabric. 

During the Fur Fair, the accustomed Exhibitors' Competition also took place, in which the contestants competed in tree categories:1) For the fur coat with the best design, 2)for the most modern style fur coat and 3) for the best stand.

The prizes for the coat with the best design were awarded to the following enterprises: 

1st) ALESSANDRO BOSSO, 2nd) LIANAS FURS, 3rd) IMPERIA FURS & LEATHER

The prizes for the best modern style fur coat were awarded to the enterprises:

1st) ALESSANDRO BOSSO, 2nd) LIANAS FURS, 3rd) IMPERIA FURS & LEATHER

Finally, the prizes for the best stand were awarded to the following enterprises:

1st) IMPERIA FURS & LEATHER, 2nd) LIANAS FURS, 3rd) VASSOU-PAPADAMOU.

In conclusion, in the Fur Fair 147 exhibitors participated . The total number of visitors for these four days was 8.675 from whom: 345 were Russian commercial visitors from ex-eastern countries, 42 were Turkish commercial visitors, 306 were commercial visitors from international markets and 318 were Greek traders. Totally, 1.195 commercial visitors visited the stands which occupied 10.500 m2 of exhibition place. During the Fur Fair many commercial dealings were accomplished. Suggestively, from exit control we can conclude that from the Fair 875 fur clothes were exported, from which 40 were vests, 3.800 very expensive fur skins and other exhibits. The Administration of the Kastorian Fur Association “The Prophet Elias” is content from this organization and believes that it was successful in accomplishing its goals.

We are in the happy position to announce that the 37th International Fur Fair of Kastoria will be held on the 4th to the 7th of May 2012.
